Statement to my
Students
I do my best to be the kind of Professor that I would like
to have if I was a student in this class.
·
I am always courteous and respectful.
·
I do my best to maintain a classroom
environment conducive to learning.
·
I do my best to communicate effectively
and teach to the best of my ability. You
will learn a lot in my class. I am a
hard worker and I will do everything within my power which is reasonable to
ensure your success in this class but you must also work hard in order to
succeed.
·
I do not give excessive homework (keep
in mind that homework is vital to the learning process). Note that the general rule of thumb for an
appropriately placed student in a college level class is that for every hour spent in class, two hours
should be spent at home in preparation for the next class but more than that
may be necessary.
·
I am accessible to students.
·
I do my best to be fair and just in all
matters.
·
I have a clear grading policy (refer to
appropriate course link). Note that I do
not “give” grades. Your performance will
determine your grade. Grades must be earned.
In order to earn an “A” you must demonstrate that you have achieved an “A”
level of command and mastery of the material.
The only way to achieve this level of knowledge and proficiency is to
do problems on your own (do and understand the homework).
In return I expect you to be the type of students that you
would like to have in your class if you were an educator.
·
Always be courteous and respectful to everyone in the classroom.
o
Arrive on time and be ready to work
when class starts.
o
Turn off cell phones before class
starts.
o
Don’t leave the classroom during class
unless it is an emergency – walking in and out is disruptive.
o
Don’t leave class early.
o
Don’t bring food/drinks to class.
o
No private conversations during class.
o
Don’t call out or interrupt others,
raise your hand.
·
Bring your textbook(s), binder (with
ample paper), writing implement(s) (including a spare) and calculator to class
every day.
·
Stay on top of your homework/studying.
·
Please give me your full attention and
actively participate in class/ask questions if you don’t understand something.
·
Treat this class as you would a good
job at which you are seeking a promotion to the next level at the conclusion of
the course.
