Homework Assignment 

1. Using the Infotrac Basic Keyword Search (be sure to click on BASIC SEARCH and the radio button Keyword)
   1. Determine the number of references (hits) for:
      1. "solar powered cars"
      2. solar powered cars
   2. Find an article in part 1.a does not contain in the article the exact phrase solar powered cars. Email the article you find to glassr@ncc.edu
   3. If you were doing reseach on solar powered cars, which search (i or ii ) would you use.  Explain your answer.
   4. If e = electric and s = solar" and c = cars determine the number of articles for:
      1. s \/  e /\ c
      2. ( s \/ e) /\ c
      3. Are the number of hits the the previous two the  same?  If not, explain why
      4. What are the number of hits for ( s /\ c) \/ (e /\ c)? Does the number match any of the previous parts?
      5. Build and hand in on paper Venn Diagrams for the expressions in parts i, ii and iv .
2. Using the Academic Search Premier database, determine the number of hits for:
   1. baseball not (major or MLB)
   2. baseball not major and not MLB (NOTE: entering as it appears here produces an error.  For the database, you must omit the word and )
   3. Are the number of hits (references the same)?  If so, explain why you think they are.
   4. Write a boolean expression for part 2.a and part 2.b above.
   5. Build and hand in on paper Venn diagrams for the expressions in parts 2.a, and 2.b.
